Πολλοί άνθρωποι ανέφεραν ότι άκουσαν μια μεγάλη έκρηξη κοντά στην Οξφόρδη, ενώ βίντεο και εικόνες που τραβήχτηκαν από τον αυτοκινητόδρομο Α34 στα βορειοδυτικά της πόλης φαίνεται να δείχνουν μια φωτεινή λάμψη.
Οι κάτοικοι έχουν αναφέρει διακοπές ρεύματος στο Witney, Burford, Chipping Norton και Milton-under-Wychwood. Επί τόπου βρίσκονται δυνάμεις της Πυροσβεστικής και της Αστυνομίας.

Τελικά η έκρηξη προκλήθηκε από κεραυνό σε δεξαμενή εργοστασίου ανακύκλωσης απορριμμάτων τροφίμων. Το γεγονός επιβεβαίωσε σε δήλωσή του εκπρόσωπος του εργοστασίου Severn Trent Green Power.
